Government considering cultural policy: Umashree

Umashree, Minister of State for Kannada and Culture, on Thursday said the State government was contemplating of coming up with a cultural policy during the budget session.

She was speaking after presenting the Partisubba Awards for 2012, 2013 and 2014 and the annual awards for 2013 and 2014 instituted by the Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy, here on Thursday.

The Partisubba award carries a purse of Rs. 1 lakh. Yakshagana artiste Shimantooru Narayana Shetty (2012), Sootrada Salakegombe artiste M.R. Ranganath Rao (2013) and Yakshagana scriptwriter G.S. Bhat (2014) received the award.

The artistes who got the annual awards for 2013 are: Malpe Vasudeva Samaga, K. Subbaraya Bhagvata, S.V. Udaykumar Shetty, Kokkadati Krishnamurthi, B. Jayarama Acharya, B.M. Nimbagallu Rudraiah, Narayanappa Kariganuru, E.N. Channabasavaiah, Basavalingappa Vibhute and Ishwarchandra Betageri.

The artistes who were presented the award for 2014 are: Udyavar Jayakumar, M.A. Nayak, Krishna Bhandary, Mudakappa Hanumappa Hosur, Satyakka, Sannapalya, Nelligere Thimmappachar, Mahadevappa Avaradhi and Sannabasappa. Karnataka Samskritika Kala Prathisthana from Bengaluru had also been chosen for this award. The annual awards carried a cash prize of Rs 10,000.

Ms. Umashree said the academy had chosen artistes for these awards without any bias. The academy should give more awards to women artistes, she said.
