Young scientists show how to utilise waste

February 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - Bengaluru:

All eyes were on Navodaya High School students Nandish N.H. and Lehman C.R. as they displayed a banana yarn bag and explained how they had “manufactured” it. The budding social scientists passionately explained how waste salvaged from a banana tree could be converted into khadi-coloured biodegradable bags. It was one of the 50 models exhibited at the 4th annual two-day ‘Anveshana’ fair organised by Agastya Foundation and Synopsis India. It was inaugurated on Thursday by Minister Kimmane Ratnakar.

The exhibitors were mentored by engineering students on various social issues, including waste management. The displayed models were shortlisted from over 300 models. Suresh T.S, Project Head for Anveshana, said the event provided an opportunity for government school students. The winning team will win a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh.
