German Open: Ashwini loses in mixed doubles

India’s Ashwini Ponnappa and partner Vladimir Ivanov bowed out of the German Open Grand Prix Gold badminton tournament losing to third seeds Chris and Gabrielle Adcock 21-19, 21-15 here on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Arvind Bhat and the doubles duo of Ashwini and G. Jwala entered the pre-quarterfinals. Defending champion Bhat defeated local qualifier Patrick Kaemnitz 21-10, 24-22 while Jwala and Ashwini beat the Indonesia’s Suci Rizky Andini and Maretha Dea Giovani 21-17, 21-16.
