Shiv Sena slams budget, ready for Friday attack

Shiv Sena alleged that they have been kept in dark; Maha CM Fadnavis defends the budget.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu’s show of gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allowing him an opportunity to present the railway budget on Thursday seems to have riled Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. Not withstanding Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis defending Prabhu and saying the Shiv Sena leaders had either not listened to the budget speech carefully or had not read the text properly, the Friday edition of Saamana — considered the Shiv Sena’s “daily bugle” — is expected unleash a volley of unkind words on Prabhu.

Saamana fans can expect the Marathi daily to be at its acerbic best on Friday, unless before the edition is out, they find the railway budget “good” for Maharshtra as the CM insists.

The Marathi daily run by the Shiv Sena intends to “tear up” the railway budget (2015-16) to pieces. Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray had not been in favour of Prabhu’s induction into the cabinet. In fact Prabhu had jumped ship from the Sena to BJP in November, to bag the plum ministry.

Directives from Matoshree, the home of Thackeray to Sena Members of Parliament was to intensify the attack on Prabhu’s railway budget. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnvais on Thursday said, “I think Shiv Sena did not listen to the budget speech or study the budget properly. I am sure if they go through the budget there are several aspects aimed at the welfare of Maharashtra, Mumbai in particular,” Fadnavis said and added, “The railway minister specifically mentioned MUTP -111. The allocation of Rs 11,500 crore for the mega project will not only help Mumbai but also the rest of the state. There are several projects related to unmanned railway crossings (over head bridges) and expansion of railway lines and conversion of narrow gauge to broad gauge (metre gauge) and completion of pending projects to help commuters.”

Senior Sena members Chandrakant Khaire, Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil, Rahul Shewale dismissed the railway budget saying it had failed to cater to needs of Mumbaikars and Maharashtra as a whole.
