The Home Ministry has not scaled down the security cover accorded to the former Union Minister P. Chidambaram, according to government sources.
“As per rule, a serving Union Home Minister is entitled to Z-plus security cover by virtue of the position. It is automatically scaled down to Z-category once he demits office. Accordingly, Mr. Chidambaram, as a former Union Home Minister, has been extended Z-category security,” said an MHA official.
However, the official said, Mr. Chidambaram's security is upgraded to Z-plus category during his visits to disturbed areas, including Naxal affected zones.
