Shweta Tiwari says she wasn't sure of taking up Begusarai
Shweta Tiwari is excited about her new role in the upcoming show Begusarai. Excerpts from a conversation:
Tell us about your role inBegusarai?
I play a nachaniyacalled Bindiya from Begusarai, a small town in Bihar where the Thakur family is based. She is ameethi churi. All the bahubalisin Begusarai are enamoured by her beauty. She uses this to her advantage as a way to escape her poverty and make way into the powerful Thakur family.
As a character, she is manipulative and has many shades. Bindiya, as a person, can instantly turn around from being naïve to vicious and that’s the most interesting part of this character.

Your role is very different from what you have done so far.
When the role was first offered to me, I wasn’t sure of taking it, but as I delved deeper into the character, I realised I wanted to play Bindiya more than anything. Also, I enjoy dance and this is the first time that I have been offered to play a shrewd character of a nachaniyaon the small screen. As an actor, you need to keep challenging yourself by pushing the envelope. In the past, I have done roles that were a trend at that time. But looking at the shift in the mindset of the audience, I feel people want to consume something hatke. Here is a show with a different dialect, quirky characters and an interesting plot. In Bindiya, the audience will get to see a different Shweta altogether.

How do you think the audience will respond to your new character?
Bindiya is an entertainer! She is too smart for her shoes. Like I mentioned, the audience is much more receptive to change these days. I am looking forward to people’s reaction to my character and I strongly feel they will enjoy seeing me in this role.

Did you have to prepare for this role before you started shooting for the show?
As an actor, one needs to prepare thoroughly for the role in order to do justice to it. To get into the skin of the character and play it effortlessly, I’m putting in those extra hours. The dialect is what brings in the added tadka to the show and I have been practising for the same. Additionally, since the character is that of a dancer, I’m working on my expressions and body language as the character is loud.
Begusarai will start on March 2 and will air every Monday to Friday at 10 pm on new Hindi Entertainment Channel &TV.
