Afternoon Delight: Web Series ‘Monica’ Hilariously Reimagines The Lewinsky Story

It’s Thursday. Which means it’s almost Friday. Which means you can probably get away with slacking a bit during your lunch hour. If you’re in need of something short and sweet to watch at your desk, we have you covered with some Afternoon Delight. This week’s pick is the brand spankin’ new web series, Monica, a humorous yet sympathetic retelling of Monica Lewinsky’s life post-Clinton scandal.
You may not remember, but after things went down (heh heh) at the Oval Office and Monica Lewinsky went from Legislative Affairs assistant to, um, assisting the President, she packed up her life in Washington D.C. and moved to NYC’s West Village to start anew. In an effort to rebrand her rep, Lewinsky set out to establish a handbag line and star in her own HBO docu-series, Monica in Black and White (which is another must-watch), which welcomed another wave of criticism and slut-shaming. Creators Doron Max Hagay and Lily Marotta, who stars in the title role, took this inspiration and recreated Lewinsky’s story with plenty of humor and heart, reminding us that it surely takes two to tango and homegirl is still a person, not the media’s plaything.
Starring Marotta, comediennes Erin Markey, Kate Berlant, and Jacqueline Novak, along with John Early, who you know from High Maintenance, Your Main Thing, and Broad City; Monica is packed to the gills with talent and features episodes under ten minutes long. See Monica try yoga and Magnolia cupcakes for the first time as she lives out her Sex and the City dream. The first two episodes of six total were released earlier this week, which you can watch below. To keep up with the Monica chronicles, bookmark their page here.
