Shimla: Cold wave conditions on Thursday continued unabated in several parts of Himachal Pradesh as tribal areas and higher hills had another spell of moderate snow while thunderstorm accompanied by rains lashed the mid and lower hills in the state.
According to MeT office, Kalpa and Keylong in tribal districts of Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur recorded 50 cm and 40 cm of fresh snow while Moorang and key tourist destination of Manaali had 18 cm and 3 cm of snow.
The mighty Rohtang and Kunzam passes received 60 cm to 70 cm of snow during past 24 hours while lower and mid hills were lashed by intermittent rains and thunderstorm.
The region had a clear day in the morning but sky was overcast by afternoon and several areas were lashed by thundershowers.
Bhandal was wettest in the region with 76 mm rains while Manali and Kheri had 53 mm and 49 mm rains, followed by Saloni and Chamba 43 mm, Palampur 36 mm, Jogindernagar 35 mm, Bharmaur 34 mm, Rohru 29 mm, Dharamshala and Baijnath 28 mm, Bhoranj and Jubbal 26 mm, Kasol 25 mm and Kangra 21 mm.
The day temperatures dropped marginally and Una was hottest with a high of 22.2 degrees C while Nahan and Sundernagar recorded maximum temperature at 19.9 degrees C and 19 degrees C, followed by Solan 16.5 degrees C, Dharamshala 16.2 degrees C, Bhunter 14.6 degrees C, Shimla 13. 2 degrees C and Kalpa 3.4 degrees C.
The minimum temperatures remained steady and Kalpa was coldest with a low of minus 6.2 degrees C, while Keylong recorded minimum temperature at minus 3 degrees C, followed by Manali minus 0.4 degree, Shimla 5 degrees C, Bhuntar 5.8 degrees C, Una 6.2 degrees C, Solan 6.5 degrees C, Palampur 7 degrees C, Dharamsala 8 degrees C, Sundernagar 8.6 degrees C and Nahan 11.3 degrees C.
The local MeT office has predicted rains and snow at isolated places in the state during next five days as a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) would affect Western Himalayan region from February 28 night onwards and is likely to interact with an high amplitude easterly wave.
