Michael Lumb: Nottinghamshire batsman tears tendon in arm

Nottinghamshire batsman Michael Lumb will miss the start of the season after tearing a tendon in his arm playing in Australia's Big Bash T20 tournament.

The England left-hander, who helped Sydney Sixers reach the Big Bash final, will be out up to 12 weeks.

Lumb is the second Notts opener to be injured this winter, after Jake Libby damaged knee ligaments in January.

They begin their County Championship Division One campaign on 12 April with a game against Middlesex at Lord's.

"Surgery was necessary if we're going to see him back fully fit," director of cricket Mick Newell told the club website. , external

"With Jake Libby still months away from a playing comeback, we're a little thin on numbers.

"Greg Smith and Steven Mullaney will see this as a chance to get into our team and get our season started in the right manner."

Lumb has played three one-day internationals and and 27 T20 matches for England, but has not appeared for the national team for 11 months.
