7 of a family die in accident near Agartala

Seven members of a family died and one was critically hurt in a road accident near Agartala before dawn on Thursday. Police said the mishap occurred when their vehicle slammed on to a roadside tree at Nalgaria under Ranirbazar police station.

 

Four children were among the dead men and women who were returning home after attending  Doa   Mahfil  (an Islamic programme) at Indranagar in Agartala. Hundreds of devotees gathered at the late night annual event.

 

Police said the speeding vehicle was reduced to wreckage after the accident and locals had to dismantle parts to get the occupants out. “All seven were declared brought dead when taken to hospital”, an officer of Ranirbazar police station told the Hindu.

 

Deceased have been identified as Yunus Mia, 33, Sahera Begum, 27, Mamata Begum, 32, Arif Mia, 13, Suman Mia, 11, Yusuf Mia, 9 and Ruma Khatun, 9. The condition of the lone survivor Jamal Mia, 18, is critical.

 

They hailed from Kalabagan in Jirania and people in the area are in deep shock over death of seven members of a family. Police said the driver lost control over the vehicle resulting in the crash.
