GREENWOOD VILLAGE — It took a bit, but Mike Morean came to grips with what he wants to pursue in his future.

On Wednesday night, the Cherry Creek safety and 2014 winner of The Denver Post Gold Helmet Award as Colorado’s top senior football player, scholar and citizen, said he will attend Princeton University in New Jersey next school year, join the Tigers lacrosse team and possibly double in football.

“I feel good about it,” the 6-foot-1, 200-pound Morean said.

He said he seriously considered going into the military — Air Force gave him an offer — but the time commitment was too great and the chance to join the Ivy League too good to pass, he explained.

He will make it official in April.

The senior safety, named All-Colorado by The Denver Post, helped Cherry Creek to the Class 5A championship last fall and rang up 127 tackles with three interceptions and a sack.

Named an All-American in lacrosse, Morean also has played in three consecutive 5A finals for the Bruins, finishing runner-up each time.

He is considering economics as a major.
