LAHORE: Construction of Ghabir Dam Project at Chakwal, establishment of Wah General Hospital at Taxila, addition of a new emergency block at Punjab Institute of Cardiology in Lahore and upgrading of Vehari DHQ Hospital were among the nine development schemes approved on Wednesday by the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) with an estimated cost of Rs15,938.823 million (Rs15.94 billion).

Presided over by Punjab Planning and Development Board Chairman Irfan Elahi, the 37th meeting of PDWP of fiscal year 2014-15 approved construction of Ghabir Dam Project at Chakwal district at the cost of Rs5,131.994 million.

The meeting approved establishment of 500-bed Wah General Hospital at Taxila tehsil of Rawalpindi district at the cost of Rs1,618 million; construction of 100-bed new emergency block at Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Lahore, worth Rs514.451 million and upgrading of Vehari DHQ Hospital as a 300-bed health facility at the cost of Rs625.357 million.

The other schemes approved included capacity enhancement of the Punjab police for establishment of the Punjab Police Integrated Command, Control and Communication (PPIC3) Centre (PC-II, revised) at the cost of Rs163.794 million and the Punjab Accelerated Functional Literacy and NFBE Project at the cost of Rs2,639.190 million.

The meeting also approved widening and improvement of road from Kot Nainan to Sukho Chak (length 26.5-km) in Narowal district at the cost of Rs465.466 million; remodeling of SMB Link Canal and enhancing capacity of Mailsi Syphon at Vehari district (revised) at the cost of Rs4,534.550 million; protecting Banuhan Distributory opposite Basti Rindan and Jakhar Imam Shah in Dera Ghazi Khan worth Rs246.021 million.
