February 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - BELAGAVI:

Visually impaired Hindustani vocalist Shakti Patil will regale connoisseurs of Indian classical music with a two-hour long performance at Seminar Hall-1 of S.G. Balekundri Institute of Technology in Shivabasava Nagar here on Friday. The programme will start at 6 p.m. and entry is free. Despite her disability, Ms. Patil, who hails from Dharwad, brings alive the sublimity of the musical notes through her rendition of the ragas and other light compositions.

She became fascinated by music at an early age and was initiated into it by Shankargouda Patil from Mudhol.

Later, she groomed under ‘Gaana Bhaskar’ Pt. Arjunsa Nakod of Hubbali and subsequently under Pt. Sripad Hegde for more than a decade.

Ms. Patil is an AIR B-grade artiste and has won gold medals in bachelor of music and master of music examinations.

She has also been honoured with several awards, such as the Pt. Jasraj Yuva Puraskar in 2007, the Pt. Mallikarajun Mansur National Trust Yuva Purskar in 2009 and the Karnataka Rajyotsava Puraskar in 2010.

The concert will start at 6 p.m. at S.G. Balekundri Institute
