CHANDIGARH: Haryana health minister Anil Vij on Wednesday conducted surprise inspection at the health directorate in Panchkula and initiated action against three officers for dereliction of duty.
Vij and his team reached the office of director general, health services (DGHS), around 12.30 pm and the minister walked into additional director Kamla Singh's office. Following a complaint against senior medical officer of Bhiwani's civil hospital N K Garg, the minister ordered his suspension.
The SMO had allegedly turned away a swine flu patient. The minister also ordered action against director of dental department Parveen Sethi and another officer Hardeep Singh posted at the health directorate.
Dr Sethi invited Vij's wrath for not keeping the annual confidential reports (ACRs) of subordinate employees properly locked. The ACRs were found lying in his office in the open. Vij has asked the official to give a written explanation.
In the accounts department, Vij found files pending since 2006. A file related to a departmental inquiry ordered in 2006 against staff nurse Renu Sharma from Yamunanagar was found in the almirah. Another file related to assured career progress was lying with the accountant for the past nine years.
Vij directed DGHS N K Arora to provide details of pending files from 2004 onwards. The minister inspected even the water cooling system installed at the directorate. He also ordered immediate replacement of outdated fire extinguishers. He also asked the department to collect water samples from the water cooler.
Private sleuths to track female foeticide
Chandigarh: Health minister Anil Vij directed DGHS N K Arora to hire private detectives to nab doctors and para-medicos indulging in female feticide. Reviewing health department's action against violators of PNDT Act, he asked Arora to seek private sleuths' help also to arrest the culprits. DGHS had informed the minister that only 12 cases under PNDT Act were registered during the current financial year.
