Amravati: Proceedings at the courts in the district remained suspended on Wednesday as the lawyers abstained from work in protest against the brutal murder of CPI leader and thinker Govindrao Pansare. Around 1,800 members of Amravati District Bar Association, headed by president PU Deshmukh, did not take part in court proceedings as a mark of protest against the killing of Pansare, who was also an advocate.

The Bar Association later submitted a memorandum to the collector, urging the government to bring to book the killers immediately and award them stringent punishment. Meanwhile, the ashesh of the slain leader were brought on Wednesday noon to the city for darshan of his followers. The ashes were kept at CPI office in Namuna here. Several visited the office and paid homage to the veteran leader. Condolence meetings were also organized by various organizations in the city.
