To win back lover, girl kidnaps self, tonsures head

COIMBATORE: A 16-year-old girl from Alandurai staged a kidnap in a bid to win over her love interest. On Tuesday, the girl had alleged that a four-member gang kidnapped her and tonsured her head. Even as police were probing various angles including caste atrocity, since she is from a scheduled caste, inquiries revealed that the girl tonsured herself in a bid to get sympathy from her lover, Arjun.
In her complaint, she alleged a man and woman took her to a car to show her some of photos. When she went near the car, they gagged her and clicked obscene pictures of her. After which they took her to the Perur temple and allegedly blackmailed her to tonsure her head or they would make the pictures public.
Inspectors Amudha and Sophia, from the all woman police station (AWPS), Thudiyalur, smelt something fishy. And their suspicion grew when the girl mentioned the woman from the gang to have threatened to kill her if she does not stay away from Arjun.
“We got Arjun’s phone records and found a call from a person named Sadayan. When Sadayan was contacted, he said that he met this girl near Perur and she asked him to tie her up. She even made a call to Arjun from his mobile asking for help. She told Arjun, that she was kidnapped and a gang tonsured her head. But when Arjun refused to help her, she asked Sadayan to tie her up,” said inspector Amudha.
After Sadayan left the spot, she waited for a while but when Arjun did not turn up, she started screaming and a public gathered there. “We spoke to Arjun and Sadyan, separately and realised that she was lying,” said inspector, Sophia. The minor was trying to win back her lover, after he learned of her having an affair.
