Rotary Club will soon have a female as its president in the North.

This was announced by the Club’s outgoing president, Ami Kohli, during the its 110th anniversary at the Takia Hotel in Labasa on Monday night.

Shelly Chand, who is the operations manager for Auto Spares in Labasa, will take up the post when Mr Kohli completes his term by mid-year.

Ms Chand, who has been with club for the past four years, said:“I am really looking forward to the challenge especially being the only lady in the club and I am hoping for the support from other members.”

She intends to focus on children’s welfare, women’s health and to get young mothers educated.

“There has been a lot of cases of child abuse and I am really looking forward to working with members of the communities to battle the issue,” Ms Chand said.

“Women in Labasa are very proactive and now I want them to be aware and go for hospital check-ups monthly.”

Ms Chand will take up office on July 1.
