Another chief from Sap falls into Infy’s lap

Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka is likely to induct another former colleague from SAP into the company.

Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka is likely to induct another former colleague from SAP into the company. Gordon Muehl, SAP’s former chief technology officer – security, will join as vice-president of Infosys, based out of Germany.

The appointment of Muehl expands the list of senior executives joining Infosys from SAP, after Sikka took over in August last year. Other former SAP employees who have joined Infosys are Michael Reh, Navin Buddiraja, Sanjay Rajagopalan, Navin Budhiraja and, most recently, Ritika Suri. All these executives have been assigned senior positions within the company.

A e-mail sent to Infosys regarding the development remained unanswered at the time of going to press. Sikka, the first non-founder CEO of Infosys and former chief technology officer at SAP, has laid out a ‘renew and new’ strategy for India’s second- largest IT services exporter. This is expected to energise the Indian IT major as it charts a new way of implementing services and solutions. This means Sikka is likely to usher in a new way of doing the existing business while scouting for newer avenues.

Infosys is expected to unveil its new growth strategy in April and the IT major has, under Sikka, emphasised on technologies such as automation, artificial intelligence, internet of things etc. However, Sikka has also stressed that the core focus would be on organic growth and on its traditional businesses. Infosys recently announced the acquisition of testing automation software firm Panaya for $200 million and this trend is expected to continue. Sikka during a recent analyst call said, “We are interested in doing acquisition of small innovative companies. We are not interested in acquiring technologies of yesterday but in acquiring the technologies of tomorrow.”
