It does get a bit irritating: Nawazuddin Siddiqui on comparison with Irrfan Khan

Riding high on the praises, he has been getting for the portrayal of Laayak Tungekar in the recently released ‘Badlapur’, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is up and about the kind of roles he does in the commercial cinema.

Nawaz, as he is fondly called by his peers and fans, isn’t scared of getting typecast as he says, “Only heroes get stereotyped. As they do the same kind of roles again and again. I am doing characters that have so many layers. And I am very lucky that I show a lot of variety.”

In an interview published in DNA, when asked about whether the time has come again when the villains become as important a part of the movie as the protagonists, Nawaz opines, “Today, the lines have blurred. There are no heroes and villains, there are just characters and that’s how it should be.”

Nawaz is often compared with Irrfan Khan, as far as the acting chops are concerned. But the talented actor holds a different opinion on this. “It gets a bit irritating. He is a very senior actor and I respect him a lot. But I don’t feel good when comparison happens. Each individual is different. By comparing, people are only insulting both is us. Neither are they understanding his craft, nor mine,” says Nawaz. Earlier too, Irrfan has avoided any questions on comparisons with Nawaz.

Nawaz also talks about working with the two Khans of the industry and seems quite happy to be sharing screen space with the superstars. “It feels great. I am quite looking forward to working with Shah Rukh Khan. As for Salman, I didn’t really bond with him while shooting for ‘Kick’, but during ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, we have quite a good time,” he signs off.
