As part of the district panchayat’s ongoing efforts to bring marginalised women in society to the mainstream, a store-on-wheels for products manufactured by Kudumbasree units will be inaugurated by district panchayat president S. Jayamohan from the Thalavur grama panchayat complex on February 25.
This is yet another first-of-its-kind project in the State that is conceived and launched by the Kollam district panchayat in association with the Kudumbasree Mission. For the unique projects launched, the Kollam district panchayat won the 2013-2014 Swaraj Trophy for the best district panchayat instituted by the State government, said district panchayat secretary K. Anil Kumar on Tuesday.
To begin with, the store will cover the panchayats of Eroor, Kundara, and Ezhukone. District panchayat’s development stand committee chairman Biju K. Mathew said that the store-on-wheels would also sell vegetables organically farmed by joint liability groups.
Organic products
Through the scheme, vegetables, eggs, and bananas that are organically grown in individual houses will be procured and sold. The Kudumbasree project will be expanded to cover several parts of the district soon, Mr. Mathew said. The store to be launched from Thalavur will be operated by a group of five women.
