Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Rithala, Mahendra Goel, has accused a police officer of manhandling him during a protest in Outer Delhi on Tuesday morning.

According to Mr. Goel, the incident happened when he had gone to meet a group of people, who were protesting on the issue of two boys going missing in Sardar Colony, Rohini Sector-16.

“Two children had gone missing from Sardar Colony in Rohini two days ago and the police have not been able to trace them. Some people were protesting on this issue near the canal in Sardar colony. When I came to know about it, I went to meet the protesters. While I was at the spot, trying to help people, some policemen came there and started using batons to disperse the protesters. When I objected to the police action, the ACP of the area, pushed me away and asked who I was,” Mr. Goel said.

A senior Delhi Police officer said, “Two children have drowned in the canal where these people were protesting. Rescue work to find their bodies has been on for a while, but in vain. On Tuesday, some locals started protesting on the issue along with the local MLA. When we tried to calm them down, the MLA started arguing with us, but later the situation was controlled.”
