Akali candidate accuses SHO of threatening to implicate in false drugs case
BATHINDA: A SAD candidate for the Bathinda Municipal Corporation elections has accused a station house officer (SHO) of searching his house without warrants during polling day on Sunday and trying to frighten his family members. Akali leader Baljit Singh alias Raju has demanded stern action against SHO Gurbir Singh, posted at Sardulgarh in Mansa district.
Six more Akali candidates seconded Raju in allegations against the cop. Raju alleged, "SHO Gurbir Singh, along with many others cops searched my house on the polling day. When I filed complaint on the police helpline 181, he sent two cops at my home late Monday on night to frighten my family."
Raju said that cops on Monday night threatened to implicate him a false of drugs if he failed to take back his complaint. He, along with his supporters, staged a sit-in outside Bathinda Cantonment police station on Monday. They ended the protest only after senior police officials assured to look into the complaint against the policemen.
Denying the charges, SHO Gurbir said, "I never searched his house nor sent any policeman to frighten Raju's family. I was on official duty at ward number 9 at Bathinda on the election day and an independent candidate had complained that some outsiders were roaming near polling booth. We had only made a search to trace outsiders, if any, near the booth. But we did not search his residence."
Bathinda SSP Inder Mohan Singh said, "An inquiry has been marked to superintendent of police (city) Des Raj and action will be taken as per findings of the probe."
