Two die of swine flu, 25 more test positive

PUNE: Two more persons, one from Baramati and the other from Ahmednagar, died of swine flu at different hospitals in the city in the last three days, taking the H1N1 death toll in the city to 24 and in Pimpri Chinchwad to five this year.
Sonabai Waghmode (21), a resident of Bharadigaon in Ahmednagar district, developed influenza-like illness on February 16. Waghmode, who was eight months pregnant, underwent a caesarean section on February 19 at a hospital in Karjat taluka.
Soon after the delivery, she developed breathlessness and had to be shifted to a private hospital in Baramati on February 20. She was referred to Noble hospital in Pune a day after as her condition deteriorated. She died around noon on February 22. Her throat swab sent to National Institute of Virology (NIV) tested positive for swine flu on February 23.
Krushna Shankar Harihar (55) from Baramati developed influenza-like illness on February 15. A patient of diabetes and hypertension, Harihar was admitted to Poona hospital on February 18. He tested positive for swine flu on February 19 and died of acute respiratory distress syndrome around 11am on February 24.
Meanwhile, 25 people tested positive for swine flu in Pune city on Tuesday which has taken the total swine flu cases to 289.
