Sangam city gets state university, IT park

The state government’s annual Budget has gifted the Sangam city a state university and an Information Technology Park apart from an elevated link road and flyover in Sangam area. The Budget presented by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has also provisions for digitalisation work at Allahabad High Court and has extended helping hand to improve the financial condition of young legal fraternity.

The state government’s annual Budget has gifted the Sangam city a state university and an Information Technology Park apart from an elevated link road and flyover in Sangam area. The Budget presented by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has also provisions for digitalisation work at Allahabad High Court and has extended helping hand to improve the financial condition of young legal fraternity.
Experts say the elevated link road expected to be built from Arail to Chatnag in the Sangam area would help aged pilgrims reach the Sangam easily during Magh and Kumbh melas.
Further, the proposed flyover expected to be built from Rambag area to new News Yamuna Bridge would ease the heavy traffic congestion during over a peak bathing days year round.
Giving emphasis on developing Sangam area, the budget has also earmarked Allahabad as one of the 22 cities situated at bank of river Ganga and on which developmental projects worth Rs 7,000 crore would be completed by year 2020. Rs 359 crore has been granted separately for works under National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA).
Further, to boost the tourism sector, air service connecting Lucknow-Allahabad-Varanasi and Agra has also been proposed.
Catering to legal fraternity, the state government has also sanctioned Rs 40 crore in the welfare funds of the lawyers. Rs 5 crore has been sanctioned additionally as financial help to an entrant in the field of law. The Bar Council Of UP was for the past several days had been demanding an increasing in the lawyer welfare funds.
The long-awaited digitalisation work of documents at Allahabad High Court and its Lucknow bench has also been fulfilled through the budget with
Akhilesh Yadav in his budget sanctioning Rs 65 crore for the purpose.
Commenting on the budget proposal, Kamlesh Singh, member, NGRBA, told TOI: “The elevated link road and flyover proposed at Sangam area is a welcome step but as far as sanctioning of fund under NGRBA and development of areas near Ganga is concerned there are already several projects and adequate fund lying unutilised.”
He said, “There have been reports of gross irregularities in the cleaning of Ganga and developing its bank, so first of all a judicial committee should look into utilization of funds so far. The proposed work slated to take place in near future should also be monitored by the committee.”
Chairman, Bar Council of UP, Abdul Razzak Khan, said: “Rs 40 crore was an instalment released as part of the Rs 200 crore promised by the state government in the year 2012 for lawyers. Further, the CM had also assured us of Rs 10 crore for young lawyers but he only released Rs 5 crore as such our demands are still not fulfilled.” He demanded increasing the amount from the state government.
