Man shoots fiancee dead, kills himself

He had returned from Dubai about four days back. However, he had neither informed his family members nor his fiancee about his arrival. According to police, he had stayed in the company of his friends in Udhamsingh Nagar district after his return.

On being contacted, Haldwani city SP Yashwant Chauhan said Pankaj reached the house of his fiancee on Tuesday afternoon. “He closed the door from inside and first shot dead his fiancee Monika, around 21 years old, and then killed himself. At the time of incident, Monika’s father was not present in the house. Her mother was in kitchen to prepare tea for Pankaj,” Chauhan told the Indian Express.

However, he could not explain the motive behind the incident. “We are investigating the case. We are trying to trace the person from whom Pankaj had got country-made pistol,” he replied to a question.

On the basis of preliminary investigation, Chauhan said Pankaj had not shared anything about his plan with his friends who were with him in the last four days after his return from Dubai. “Pankaj was to marry Monika in the coming October month,” he further said. According to him, Pankaj and Monika had studied in a Polytechnic Institution in Almora district in the past.
