Mumbai: Opposition parties in Maharashtra Tuesday said that they were disappointed with the BJP-Shiv Sena government dismissing their plea to introduce a condolence motion for slain CPI leader Govind Pansare during the budget session of the state legislature set to begin on March 9.
"We are disappointed. There is no substance in this government's contention that a condolence motion for Pansare cannot be introduced because he was not a member of the House," Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil said at Vidhan Bhawan after a meeting of the House business advisory committee.
"At the BAC meeting, where Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was present, we insisted that along with the condolence motion for late R R Patil on the first day of the session, another condolence motion for Pansare should also be tabled," Leader of Opposition in the State Legislative Council Dhananjay Munde said here.
"However, our suggestion wasn't heeded," he said.
Vikhe Patil said that there were cases in the past where condolence motions for prominent figures who were not members of the legislature were introduced in the House.
Seeking transfer of the Maharashtra state police chief over "deteriorating law and order situation as seen by Pansare murder," Vikhe Patil said that a CBI probe should be ordered to find out who murdered the communist leader.
The Maharashtra state government should apologise for not keeping its word on performing bhoomipujan of the Shivaji Maharaj memorial on February 19, during Shiv Jayanti, he said.
The Shiv Sena, which evokes Shivaji Maharaj's name, is more interested in Mumbai's nightlife, Vikhe Patil said, in a veiled attack on Yuva Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray who has been at the forefront in the bid to revive Mumbai nightlife.
Vikhe Patil said that he plans to hold a conclave of opposition leaders from all states in Mumbai or Shirdi.
The Congress leader also flayed RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's remarks about Mother Teresa.
"This shows to what extent they will go in their ghar wapasi campaign," he said.
