ALLAHABAD: The
Allahabad High Court on Monday dismissed a
PIL requesting the court to direct sacking of Union minister
Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti for making controversial statement.
The PIL further had requested the court to direct the state authorities to initiate criminal proceedings against her for the statement, which according to petitioner was aimed at dividing the society.
Sadhvi had won Lok Sabha election 2014 from Fatehpur parliamentary seat on Bharatiya Janata Party ticket.
Dismissing the PIL filed by Banda Nagar Palika member AN Nomani, a division bench, comprising Chief Justice Dr Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud and Justice Suneet Kumar, declined to interfere in the matter and termed the PIL as misconceived.
In the PIL, Nomani alleged that
Union minister of state for food processing industries, New Delhi, had on December 1, 2014 made a controversial statement during an election meeting. He alleged that this statement was against the stature and status of a union minister. Therefore, he requested the court to interfere in the matter and direct her sacking from the post of union ministry. The court while dismissing the PIL, termed it as baseless and misconceived.
