Lyon airport reveals speciality retail tenders for new T1

Aéroports de Lyon has revealed a slew of speciality retail tenders at the future terminal one at Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport.

The terminal expansion allows the joint-venture between Aelia and Lyon airport to open a 1,340sq m walkthrough duty-free store at the end of 2016, as first revealed on DFNIonline this month.

The new T1 project will boast 10,000sq m of retail space when it opens and increase overall capacity of the airport from 9.5m in 2015 to 15m by 2020.

“The new terminal one is the largest construction project in the airport’s history that will double the facility’s passenger capacity. The overall capacity of the airport, with this new equipment will increase from 9.5m in 2015 to 15m in 2020. For its opening, we are expecting 9.5m passengers,” an Aéroports de Lyon spokesman told DFNIonline.

“Our [new] tender will focus on specialist shops. We already have an agreement for the duty-free shop and with SSP for food and beverage,” the spokesman added.

Aéroports de Lyon is tendering seven speciality retail packages. The first is an eight-year contract exclusively for watches, clocks and jewellery in a 91sq m space and includes a further 83sq m space in T2’s restricted area and 41sq m in the public area.

Packages two to seven cover spaces of 113sq m, 80sq m, 119sq m, 106sq m, 32sq m and 37sq m for a range of product possibilities excluding food and beverage, jewellery, clocks and watches, alcohol and tobacco and press and electronics. A further 67sq m is also up for tender in T2 airside, while packages four (119sq m) and five (106sq m) can be merged.

Companies interested in the retail tenders need to register their interest with the airport before Friday March 27, 2015. The tender will be available from Monday March 30, 2015 and the deadline for submitting an application is June 30, 2015.

“The walkthrough duty-free store will be operated by Aelia Duty Free and Aéroports de Lyon [a 50:50 joint-venture partnership] and it will open in 2016,” added the airport spokesman.

The future T1 will merge the current T1 and T3. Lyon Duty Free’s concession came into force at the beginning of January 2012 and is for a period of 15-years. The joint-venture opened five Aelia Duty Free stores airside in June 2012 as well as an Aelia Mode & Beauté store located landside in the square between T1 and T3.
