RANCHI: Automated fuel stations in the city will provide unadulterated petrol and ensure that customers get bang for the buck, said Indian Oil Corporation executve director Indrajeet Bose on Monday. Ranchi joined the league of 25 cities after 15 automated petrol pumps became functional on Monday.
"As many as 15 petrol pumps, with 56 tanks and 151 dispensing nozzles, have been made completely automatic.
Till now, around 7,000 IOCL pumps across the country have been automated," said Bose.
The IOCL executive director also said the new arrangement "is a win-win situation" for both dealers and customers. "While dealers will be able to manage their accounts and monitor the system online, the company will know what is happening at each station. Customers will gain because they will get the right quality and quantity and also get a printed bill for each transaction."
Car owners often complain about adulterated petrol and getting less fuel than what is shown on the screen. With the new system, created by Denmark-based company Doms, customers do not have to face harassment, said Bose.
Avinash Kene, senior manager (automation projects) at Gilbarco Veeder-Root (the parent company of Doms), said, "An underground probe or level gauge is installed in all the tanks that will capture the quantity of petrol being filled up in the tank. If anything else is added to the tank, the gauge will measure it and thus will be able to raise an alarm for adulteration. Similarly, when a consumer buys petrol, the printer will immediately print a receipt of the deal and if the petrol is less than the quantity shown, the consumer will immediately get to know about it."

"If the employee does not print a receipt the tank would be automatically locked for further deliveries."
Dealers in the city are happy with the new system. Surendra Kumar Rai, owner of Indraprastha Petroleum at HEC gate, said, "This system will help us keep a check on our account and even customers won't have any grievances as complete transparency will be maintained." The company is also mulling introduction of mobile alert after some time.
The pumps were the system will be implemented include Indraprastha Petroleum near HEC Gate, Kankey Service Centre at Kanke Road, Kaushiki Shilpi Fuel Centre at Soparam, Khukhri Service Station at Doranda, NB Petroleum at Pirra, New Gumla Traders at Booty More, Shakti Service Station at Harmu Road, Shambhavi Fuel Centre at Satellite Colony, Shree Bhawani Automobiles at Bajra, Shrre Hari Fuels and Akula Shop at Old HB Road, Shyam Service centre at Bariatu Road, Tanveer Fueling and Services at Purulia Road, Rambilas Prasad and Sons at Ratu Road and Friends Automobile at Kantatoli.
