Collector M. Karunakaran inspected the direct procurement centre (DPC) run by Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) at Keezhapuliyoor near Tenkasi on Monday.

Following an appeal from farmers at a recent grievance day meeting, Dr. Karunakaran directed the TNCSC to open a DPC at Keezhapuliyoor. Subsequently, it was opened to procure paddy from farmers. Dr. Karunakaran, accompanied by H. Vijayakumar, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, and Rehobayam, Revenue Divisional Officer, Tenkasi, paid a surprise visit to the DPC and checked the quality of paddy, moisture content, weighing scale, marks in weighing stones and stock yard.

He interacted with farmers, who had brought paddy, to know the usefulness of the facility and sought suggestions to improve it. The Collector checked the records and asked the staff to ensure that a minimum of 500 bags of paddy were procured in a day and money disbursed to the farmers on the spot.

Dr. Karunakaran told the farmers to call either him or his subordinates in Tenkasi in case of any grievance over the functioning of the DPC.
