Silchar: A powerful IED was found in Hailakandi district on Monday morning.
A senior police officer said the IED was recovered from a spot near the boundary wall of the house of one Alim Uddin Majumdar in the Barband locality near Hailakandi town.
Early on Monday, Majumdar noticed at least three persons planting the device and sounded an alert. As residents reached the spot, the miscreants fled.
Police and CRPF, led by Hailakandi SP S Rajen Singh and ASP Rajmohan Roy, reached the spot and found the device. They cordoned off the area. The IED was defused at Hailakandi PS.
No one has been arrested yet.
On February 1, a powerful blast rocked Hailakandi town and killed three persons. On February 5, another bomb exploded at Kazidahar village in Cachar district, injuring a 10-year-old boy.
Police have arrested seven persons, all from West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, who were staying in rented houses in Hailakandi and Karimganj districts for allegedly being involved.
