GURGAON: Khalid Qureshi, a 40-year-old former ticket checker in Western Railway, who participated in the marathon 'Tiranga Run', reached Ipsaa Day Care Centre in Gurgaon with the Tricolour in hand on Monday afternoon.
The Mumbai resident started his journey on the 65th Republic Day of India, from Gateway of India in Mumbai and concluded it at India Gate, Delhi, on Sunday.
Star field sprinter Milkha Singh was among those who welcomed him on Sunday.
Children from 10 schools in Gurgaon welcomed Qureshi and pledged to hoist the national flag at their homes. "It is good to see his enthusiasm for a noble cause. Through such initiatives, children learn that even a common man like Qureshi can bring about a change in society," said a parent at Ipsaa Day Care Centre.
Giving the students the message of hoisting the national flag at their homes, he told them, "Everybody should have one tiranga in our homes. Children are the true brand ambassadors of 'I Love My Tiranga'. We need to inculcate the love for our country and tricolour in young minds".
Qureshi spoke about his fondness of the Millennium City. "Gurgaon will always be close to my heart. In 2012, the people of Gurgaon and the then CM, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the mayor and other officers, received me and encouraged me to continue my endeavour. The love I received motivated me to visit the city again and spread the message across the Millennium City," he said. During his journey, Qureshi distributed about 30,000 tricolours and enrolled 60,000 students to take the pledge.
