Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has handed over his entire share of MPLADS fund of Rs 5 crore to Kashi for its development. He has already sent a letter to district administration in this regard clearing its utilization in 60 developmental works across five assembly segments of his constituency.
“A consent letter of the PM from PMO has been received here on Monday afternoon in which Rs 4.49 crore have been considered for 60 development work in five assembly areas falling under Varanasi parliamentary constituency,” disclosed chief development officer (CDO) Vishak G.
He informed TOI, “Maximum 21 development work have been sanctioned in Sevapuri assembly area while 19 work of Rohania, 11 in Cantonment, seven in City North and two of City South assembly area have also been included in this list.”
Mainly the work of road repair and construction, installation of hand-pumps and tube-wells have been considered under Modi’s MPLADS. The first installment of Modi’s MP fund of Rs 2.50 crore has been received at the account operated under district magistrate on July 31, 2014. But, only 16% of the available fund could be used as the PM gave consent for only one work of Rs 39.777 lakh for the betterment of sitting capacity at Varanasi Cantonment and Kashi railway stations.
As maximum fund under MPLADS of Modi was lying unused even after three quarters of the formation of BJP led government at the Centre, the opposition parties like Congress had started making it an issue. But, one month before the end of current financial year Modi not only gave his consent for 100% utilization of his MP fund but also cleared his intentions for gaining confidence of people Sevapuri and Rohania assembly areas, which have MLAs from Samajwadi Party. Other three assembly areas with BJP MLAs have got meager share in Modi’s MP fund.
Unlike his predecessor MM Joshi, the present MP and PM has not appointed any representative to handle his MP fund, confirmed the in-charge of Modi’s constituency office SS Pathak. He said that a proposal of works for all assembly areas of Varanasi parliamentary constituency had been prepared at this office one and half month back and sent to the PMO.
