Archana, Navneet, Rauf and Raaj Out of TV show in a month

The cast of the comedy series The Great Indian Family Drama was a casting coup of sorts. However, a month after its launch, it’s a different story.
Archana Puran Singh, Navneet Nishan, Rauf Lala and writer-actor Raaj Shaandilyaa are out of the show, with only Satish Kaushik remaining from the original cast.

While Rauf faced a visa problem, others bowed out following creative differences.Says a source, “The show revolves around a family and its various characters. However, the format changed into stand-up comedy a couple of weeks ago, a decision that didn’t go down well with many. Actor and content director Raaj was the first to call it quits with Archana following suit. With Rauf out, Navneet, who plays his sister, seemed inconsequential in the scheme of things.” And what about the rumours of simmering issues between Archana and Satish? “Their dates didn’t match quite often. Also, there was competition over who gets more screen time. When it came to choosing, the makers opted for Satish over Archana,” says the source.

While Archana didn’t revert to our text message, Navneet said, “Unfortunately, it’s true. They changed the format and let go of actors.” But couldn’t they have had easily fit into the new format? She replies, “The channel or the production house can answer that better. I was quite heartbroken. They made the decision based on the ratings that spanned three weeks. It’s sad that the TV world has lost its patience. Everyone wants instant results.” According to sources from the show, the actress refused to adjust to the erratic shoot schedule. However, Navneet refutes, “That’s not true. I have my contract copy stating that I will shoot only 9 am to 9 pm.” Raaj said, “I would rather do something that I have not attempted before than repeat myself.”
