The State Government has resorted to develop the ornamental terraced Brindavan Gardens near Srirangapatna to unravel the full tourist potential of the district.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, speaking at the valedictory ceremony of the Platinum Jubilee celebration of the formation of Mandya district here on Sunday night, said that the Government would improve the Brindavan Gardens by providing/upgrading infrastructure facilities.
“We will develop the Brindavan Gardens to woo national and international tourists in a big way,” he said.
The Brindavan Gardens on the downstream of the historical Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir (KRS), known for its symmetric design, has innumerable fountains and attract at least 3 lakh tourists every month.
Special package
Meanwhile, Housing and Mandya in-charge Minister, M.H. Ambareesh has urged Mr. Siddaramaiah to announce a Special Development Package (SDP) for the complete development of Mandya.
As the district lags far behind in several fields, with regard to development, the Government should release more funds for Mandya, he said.
Mr. Ambareesh demanded Rs. 100 crore for each taluk (Mandya has seven taluks), Rs. 100 crore for reviving State run Mysugar and Pandavapura Sahakara Sakkare Kharkane (PSSK) and Rs. 1,000 crore for providing drinking water and other facilities.
Action Plan
Mr. Siddaramaiah, later, sought an Action Plan from Mr. Ambareesh for the development of Mandya.
The Government has already modernised around 500 km length of canals and has decided to repair/renovate 1,500 km length of canals, he said.
