Why commerce?

First year, BCom (integrated professional programme), St Francis College for Women, Hyderabad
I had chosen economics as an addi tional subject from class VIII-X.This is when my interest in commerce took root. After class X, I joined an ISC school, where I read accounts, economics and commerce, with maths as my core subject. This formed the basis of my decision to study chartered accountancy (CA) while pursuing the BCom simultaneously.
Although the CA programme can be taken up after completing one's Bachelor's, I decided to do both together. This is why I enrolled for the integrated professional programme offered by St Francis College for Women.
Pursuing the BCom degree has taught me how to create a business out of virtually anything and how to manage it. The degree has also given me in-depth knowledge of various subjects.

Third year, Bachelor of Financial Markets, KC College, Mumbai
Finance and business have always fascinated me. I always intended to set up a business, for which a strong base in commerce, including accounts, finance and economics, is a must. Choosing commerce as a study stream was thus obvious.
During the first two years of college, I realised that finance was my calling. While I had basic knowledge of how finance and business worked, I always wanted to know how the financial markets functioned. So, instead of a regular BCom degree, I zeroed in on the Bachelor of Financial Markets (BFM). Three years into the programme, I have not only learnt how the market functions, but have also gained extensive knowledge of how to analyse a company, its financial background and its stake in the market.
