The Department of Mechanical Engineering of National Engineering College, Kovilpatti, organised a two-day seminar on “Advances in Industrial Tribology” sponsored by the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences(BRNS) on February 11 and 12.

Chief Guest T.P.D. Rajan, Senior Scientist, Council of Science and Industrial Research, Trivandrum, inaugurated the seminar and released the seminar proceedings. Nearly 90 faculty members and research scholars from various engineering colleges of Tamil Nadu participated in the seminar.

Competition

The Department of Visual Communication of Noorul Islam College of Arts and Science, Kumaracoil in Thuckalay, is conducting a documentary film competition on February 25. Apart from college students, irrespective of age anybody can participate in the competition. The competition has been organised to encourage the talents among students and the public.

Awards would be given in three categories – Short films, Documentary and Animation. Short films and documentaries should be based on the social issues affecting the general public. Interested persons can contact 7845328808 and 8056559697, says a release from the Principal V. Umayoru Bhagan.

The Consumer Club of the college got the best club award for 2013-14 among the colleges in the district. Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan gave away the award to Principal K. Selvaraj during the Kanyakumari Jilla Consumer Protection function.

Technical workshop

The Nadar Saraswathi College of Engineering and Technology in Theni conducted a national-level technical workshop on Foremost ‘Drift in Concrete Technology.’

Central Electrochemical Research Institute Principal Scientist R. Selvaraj explained the progress, importance and job opportunities in concrete technology.

Principal K.P. Sathyamoorthy felicitated. Students from various engineering colleges took part.

Field trip to INO site

The H.K.R.H. College at Uthamapalayam in Theni district arranged a field trip to India-Based Neutrino Observatory site at Pottipuram in Thevaram recently. About 43 final year students took part. The field study helped them understand the importance of INO. It will be a boon to students, scholars and scientists in the field of basic sciences especially in particle physics.

They also appealed to include the college as one of the faculty coordinators in the project and insist the Central government to provide rail connectivity and four lane road facility to Theni.

Mathrubasha Divas

The Gandhigram Rural Institute celebrated Matrubasha Divas recently. Chief guest Poet Madhukur Ramalingam released books written by GRI Professor Anandha Kumar.

P. Prabhu of Political Science Department won the first prize in an oratory competition held in the institute recently.

Sports Day

The 18th Sports Day of the Rev. Jacob Memorial Christian College, Ambilikkai, was held on February 7.

Chief guest Thilagavathy Daniel, Professor, Department of Biology, Gandhigram Rural Institute, declared the meet open and distributed prizes.

The overall championship was given to the Green House and Individual championships were given to P. Sampathkumar and Guddy Waddey.

Awareness camp

The ICT Academy of Tamilnadu and Entrepreneurship Development Cell of The Standard Fireworks Rajaratnam College for Women, Sivakasi, conducted an entrepreneurship awareness camp for graduating students on February 11.

Resource persons N. Narendra Kumar, Relationship Manager, ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu, Chennai, K.R. Gnanasambandam, Certified Consultant Trainer in MA FOI Management Consultant Ltd., Madurai, Subapriya Prabhakar, Managing Partner in Micro Fine Clothing, Madurai, delivered lectures on scope of entrepreneurship in India and skill requirement for an entrepreneur.

Nearly 300 final year students participated and gained knowledge about entrepreneurship.

Training

programme

A Computer Training Programme on "Basic Computer Skills and Internet" was organised by IT-Department in association with the Kalasalingam University, Krishnankoil.

Nearly 40 Postgraduate School Teachers with various specialisations from Asian Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Melur, took part in the programme.
