February 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

An aged woman suffered injuries on the legs when a mysterious object exploded near Ilathur on Sunday evening.

Sources in the police said S. Arumugathammal (65) of Kasi Dharmam under Ilathur police station limits and her daughter-in-law Muthulakshmi were returning home from their field on Sunday evening. When they were about to reach the village, Mrs. Arumugathammal accidentally stepped on a mysterious object that exploded suddenly.

With injuries on both the legs, she has been admitted to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital while Mrs. Muthulakshmi escaped unhurt.

The condition of Mrs. Arumugathammal is reported to be stable.

The police suspect that Mrs. Arumugathammal might have stepped on the explosive which might have been planted by the farmers to chase wild boars invading their fields.

Ilathur police have registered a case.
