LUDHIANA: As The Times of India's Save Sidhwan campaign moves people into action, 65-year-old exporter Jasbir Singh Jogi of Dugri, phase 2, has set an example. Jogi, who has been associated with the campaign from the beginning, joined the Sambhav Foundation around six months ago.
"I joined the Save Sidhwan campaign initiated by The Times of India as it hurts me to see the plight of the canal, which once had sparkling, crystal clear water.
When this movement began, I decided to participate actively and now it has become a mass movement. I, along with my colleague, AP Singh of the NGO, Sambhav Foundation, attended the awareness rally in South City as well as the first meeting held at Sukhmani Enclave. We also cleared garbage along canal sides and later at the Pakhowal Road vegetable market and slum area".
This Sidhwan warrior says he will continue to work for the cause, which is significant for both the present and future generations. "We will not rest till Sidhwan canal sparkles with clean water again. We will do whatever we can to ensure that our mission is achieved", said Jogi. Apart from cleaning garbage, he also warned litterbugs against dumping garbage in the canal.
Jasbir attributed his zeal to the motivation he receives from family members, including his wife Amritpal Kaur, two sons Rajkamal Singh, 34, Harkamal Singh, 30 and daughter Puneet Kamal Kaur, 28.
