Saif Ali Khan and Vidya Balan's Kolkata connection

What’s common between Saif Ali Khan and Vidya Balan? Their first film together, Parineeta, which also marked her Bollywood debut, was based in Kolkata. After the actress’ thriller Kahaani, helmed by Sujoy Ghosh and shot in the City Of Joy, the actor’s next with the same filmmaker is based in the same city too. Saif, whose next is Sujoy’s adaptation of the Japanese novel, The Devotion Of Suspect X, is scheduled to start shooting in Kolkata sometime this April.
Incidentally, Saif did shoot in the West Bengal capital for Bullet Raja, but that was only for a small portion of the film. Sujoy’s movie was scripted keeping Kolkata in mind. “More so because the house plays a very important role in the film. And Kolkata has some unique and wonderful old houses. So that aspect is going to give a different look to the movie,” says our source.
The original novel revolves around a woman who craves for a quiet peaceful life, but accidentally kills her abusive ex husband. After her next-door neighbor helps her dispose the body, a cop, sensing something amiss, arrives to begin his investigation.

In Sujoy’s film, Saif plays the cop and Pakistani actor Fawad Khan plays the neighbour. The director is yet to finalise the leading lady. Jacqueline Fernandez was supposed to play the part, but she reportedly opted out. Last heard, he had sent an SOS to Kangana Ranaut and is still waiting her final response.
