KANPUR: District magistrate Roshan Jacob on Saturday issued notices to the illegal occupiers of government land and asked them to vacate the same or else be ready to face the consequences.
The notices were issued after the district administration received information that the government land, worth more than Rs 1000 crore is under, illegal occupation of some persons.
According to officers of district administration, after declaring the illegal occupiers of the government land as land mafios, legal action would be taken against them under the Goonda Act.
The inquiry conducted by ADM (finance and revenue) Shatrughan Singh revealed that most of the illegal possessions are on nazul land in posh localities of the city. The inquiry was ordered by the district magistrate because the district administration is unable to implement several government schemes due to shortage of land in the city.
The inquiry report, submitted to the district magistrate on Friday, revealed that around 7.14 lakh square metre of nazul land, situated in various localities of the city, had been illegally occupied by some people. The areas where nazul land is mainly situated include Civil Lines, Arya Nagar, Swroop Nagar, Nawabganj, Sarvodaya Nagar, Kakadeo, Company Bagh, Vikas Nagar, Sharda Nagar, Fazalganj, Mall Road, Birhana Road, Cantonment, Afeem Kothi, Kidwai Nagar, Juhi colony, Barra, Govind Nagar, Naveen Market and Khalasi Line. The value of this land is around Rs 500 crore. The report revealed that land around 5.03 lakh square metre was lying vacant, and small illegal occupiers were in possession of over 20,000 square metre of land. Moreover, there was around 12.19 lakh square metre of land belonging to Sadar Tehsil in urban area of the city.
The ADM stated that around 7000 hectare of land belongs to the gram samaj of 174 villages which comes under the ambit of Kanpur Development Authority. About 772 hectare of this land is in illegal possession. The value of this land is around Rs. 500 crore, he informed.
He also stated that the district administration and Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) would launch a joint operation to get the land vacated and initiate legal proceedings against the guilty persons.
