LUDHIANA: Punjab and Haryana high court has asked Kamaljit Soi, a road safety expert and an amicus curiae (a friend of court) in safe school vahan scheme, to physically verify whether all Ludhiana schools are complying with the scheme of not.
To start with, he would check vehicles of three prominent schools of the city under a pilot project.
On the last hearing of 'Safe school vahan scheme', Justice Rajiv Bhalla instructed Soi to check school vehicles following norms or not.
The report will be submitted to the high court in the next hearing on March 13.
Talking to TOI, Kamajit Soi said, "The basic idea is to understand how many buses have permits and how many run without permit."
Importantly, school vehicles those have been issued school permit will also be verified.
It is pertinent to mention here that school permit can be issued to only those who comply with all the norms under safe school vahan scheme.
"Justice Rajiv Bhalla also instructed to do a reality check of school vehicles which have been issued permits. Whether buses meet the set guidelines under the policy or not will be verified," Soi added. "The status report will be submitted in the high court in the next hearing on March 13," the road safety expert said.
