Call for a comprehensive Telugu dictionary

To promote the use of Telugu among the new generations. there is a need to develop a comprehensive dictionary incorporating changing usage of words, speakers at Telugu Tirunallu said.

Speaking at the function organised by Paravastu Padya Peetham here on Saturday to mark the International Mother Language Day, Telugu scholar and former professor Vedula Subrahmanya Sastry said it was the responsibility of the Government to take steps to protect and promote the Telugu language.

On the occasion, children dressed up as Telugu poets, ancient to modern, recited Telugu poetry as part of the Telugu Padya Vijayam karyakram and Vedula Subrahmanya Sastry gave a commentary.

Pledge

Fifth generation descendant of author of Balavyakaranam Parvastu Chinaya Suri, Phanisayana Suri, administered a pledge to all participants to save Telugu.

Chairman Rahul Chandra and S Vijay Kumar of the Gokul Chandra Memorial Trust supported the programme. Pydah Krishna Prasad, Moida Ananda Rao, GRK Prasad, Tirupati Rajamannar, and Prof A Prasanna Kumar spoke.

AU to celebrate Ugadi

Staff Reporter adds: Andhra University will take all steps to promote Telugu and also incorporate it appropriately in its official communications, Registrar V. Uma Maheswara Rao has said.

Speaking at a function organised to mark the day at Telugu Department, he called upon everyone to protect and promote the use of Telugu even while mastering other languages for the sake of employment.

The university would take steps to celebrate Ugadi in a grand manner, he added.

Head of Department of Telugu N. Mohan Rao, faculty members — L. Chakradhar Rao, G. Yohan Babu, K. Sudhakar Raju, and M. Jayadev, among others, participated.

VITS College of Engineering, Sontyam, celebrated ‘Mathru Bhasha Diwas’.

Vice-principal G. Rajasekharam and secretary N. Prasada Raju spoke about the fading Telugu culture and urged the students to take measures to protect Telugu language.
