GK Vasan plumps for nuke energy

Erode: Pitching for use of nuclear power in Tamil Nadu, Tamil Maanila Congress president G.K. Vasan on Saturday said the Central and state governments should explain its benefits to the people and ensure it does not affect the common man. “Nuclear energy is essential for Tamil Nadu, but, at the same time, both the Central and state governments should explain the benefits to the people. Such energy systems should not affect the common man,” he told mediapersons.

Mr Vasan was replying to a question on his opinion on anti-nuclear agitations in the state, citing safety reasons.On the fishermen’s issue, he expressed concern over continued attacks on them, allegedly by Sri Lankan naval personnel, even after the newly-elected President of the island nation visited India. Such attacks should be stopped immediately, he said. Mr Vasan, who was speaking after inaugurating a motorcycle rally to enrol more members into TMC, expressed the confidence that the party will achieve its target of recruiting 50 lakh members and claimed that many people were showing interest to join it.
