Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) will lay siege to the Assembly on March 13 and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State officer-bearers will stage a satyagraha in the capital on March 6 as part of its bid to intensify the agitation against Finance Minister K.M. Mani for his alleged involvement in the bar bribery case.
Briefing reporters about the deliberations at the State committee and State officer-bearers meetings here on Saturday, BJP State unit president president V. Muraleedharan accused the CPI(M) for its failure protest against Mr. Mani in the Assembly. By perpetrating corruption and pursuing vote-bank politics, the State government was causing undue hardships to the people.
League’s ‘agenda’
The proposals for delimiting local self-government institutions reflected the communal agenda of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). The proposals to delink grama panchayats annexed to the Kozhikode Corporation and to include IUML strongholds while constituting the Kannur Corporation were the best instances, he said.
If the bidding for the Vizhinjam port failed to take off, the onus was on the State government. He accused the government of bargaining for the project and hence companies were reluctant to come forward. Details of the bargaining by the political leadership to secure undue gains would soon get exposed and it would be another major scam, he said.
He said the probe into the death of security guard Chandrabose in Thrissur was being sabotaged by the government. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) leaders, MLAs, and the police were trying to shield the accused, Mohammed Nisham. The police had not taken the statement of Chandrabose. The government was trying to protect criminals, he said.
He said the BJP membership had touched 17 lakh. A membership drive had been planed from February 22 to March 1.
The meetings also discussed the preparations to be made for the ensuing local government and Assembly elections, he said.
