Siblings found dead at employers’ house, mother, stepfather ‘end life’ a day later

A day later, their mother and her husband were also found dead, having apparently committed suicide.

Bodies of two siblings, aged 25 and 20 years, were found hanging from iron hooks in the house of their employer in Lokhandwala, Andheri, on Friday night. The 20-year-old boy and his sister, who were employed as house helps and lived with their employers, were said to be upset ever since their mother, a widow, remarried recently.

A day later, their mother and her husband were also found dead, having apparently committed suicide.

According to initial police probe, the siblings hanged themselves in the living room around 9:30 pm while their employers were in other rooms. Police said no suicide note was found. The Oshiwara police station received a call from the owners of the flat in Shishira building located off Lokhandwala, informing them about the incident. When they reached the spot, the duo’s bodies were found hanging from dupattas tied to ceiling iron hooks. The owners of the house, three in the family, were in their bedroom. “One of them said the door leading from the living room to the kitchen and bedroom were locked when the incident took place,” said an officer from the Oshiwara police station.

He told the police in his statement that the two siblings had been staying with them for the past 15 years, along with their mother who also worked as a domestic help. However, their mother recently remarried and moved out of the house, leaving them behind. He further claimed that the young siblings were not happy with their mother’s remarriage. “The employer said the two often fought with their mother over this issue,” said S Vele, senior police inspector of the Oshiwara police station. The police further said that they had tried to contact the sibling’s mother but she was not at home on Friday night. They informed her on Saturday morning.

The police said they did not suspect any foul play at present but were probing the matter. “We have registered a case of unnatural death,” added Vele.
