At a time when many Bollywood ‘seniors’ are being appreciated for their comebacks whether on television or on the big screen, Raveena Tandon is very clear that she has no such plans. The actress told us during a recent visit to the city that the projects she’s currently involved in are all friendly gestures and not professional endeavours.
On the sets of Onir’s next, Shab, she told us, “The first time I actually got to know the details about my role was when Onir was explaining it to someone else.
All I got was a call where he said I am making a film and you have to be in it. He is a dear friend and that’s why I agreed. Later I found out that the film’s cast had workshops and when I asked Onir about that, he said tumhe kya workshop chahiye? That’s how it is when you work with friends. Koi seriously hi nahi leta.” Raveena also shot for Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet sometime ago. But she’s clear that even that film is a friendly cameo and not her ‘comeback’ performance. She said, “Anurag is another close friend and we go way back to Shool days. I got a very excited phone call from him about the movie and he was like, ‘You have to be in it and I am not listening to a no at all’. And I agreed. I am in a few songs in the movie. It’s not a proper role with dialogues or a story line. Right now, the film is in the edit stage and I’ve been told it’s running long. So I don’t even know whether my songs will be in it or not. That’s what even I am trying to find out because people ask me all these questions. I have to clarify to everyone that it’s just a guest appearance and not my big comeback. That term is used all around these days and I can’t handle it.

She added, “I don’t do these films for the money, it’s just for my friends. For me, I am happily married and I have my two kids who I have to run around and take care of. I am happy being at home and taking care of those roles. I don’t have to work because I want to see myself on screen. There are many scripts that come to me, but I am not interested. I am not in that space where I have to work for money, or my husband is out of a job or I want to re-invent and re-enter films and be glamorous and live in the limelight forever. I don’t live in that sort of a dream and I am not delusional.” There’s a right time for everything. Today, there’s Anushka, Priyanka, Katrina, these girls, you know, it’s their time. There’s a time for everyone, which is what I tell everyone. At the time I entered, there was Madhuri, Juhi, Sridevi ji, you know that batch. Before them was another batch. There are these cycles which I know and understand and am over them. So ab jo bhi kaam hota hai, it’s all for fun because I don’t have anything to prove to anyone anymore. I am not in that zone where there is any pressure to comeback on me.”
