Conduct proper inquiry into corporate espionage scandal: Moily
MANGALURU: M Veerappa Moily, former union minister and chairman of parliamentary standing committee on finance, has urged the central government to conduct an appropriate inquiry into the sensational corporate espionage scandal.
“It is a matter of concern for everybody. Whether it is our (Congress) government or not, they (the government) should immediately conduct an appropriate inquiry into it.
The accused should be punished. Such instances never happened during our tenure,” Moily told reporters.
To a query on whether BJP government should be appreciated for bringing out the scandal in open, Moily said, “What is a big deal in being alert after thieves have already stolen valuable documents? We had installed CCTV cameras during our tenure. However, I don’t want to blame anybody.”
On issue of petroleum price subsidy, Moily said, “The subsidy was reduced when the price of crude oil was slashed. The subsidy amount during our tenure was Rs 1,90,000 crore. Actually, the benefit of reduction in crude oil price should go to consumers. But it is not going to consumers. Through central excise and other cess, the government is taking directly the benefit of oil price variation. This is not fair.”
However, he said, “The parliamentary standing committee on finance is not examining the issue of petroleum price and subsidy. Instead, we have other subjects before us like banking, NPA, loans, schemes, planning etc. We are preparing report on such issues.”
