From Jodi #1 to Super Kudumbam and other popular programmes on the small screen, VJ Deepak has done it all. “It was time to move on and make that natural progression to the big screen. In director S. N. Sakthivel’s upcoming comedy, Ivanukku Thannila Gandam , I think the role of an anchor in a local TV channel is tailor-made for me. My character moves from the village to the city in search of a better career,” says Deepak about his first lead role. In the process, he comes across people who are bent on sabotaging his dreams. Ivanukku Thannila Gandam Deepak has already started reading new scripts but plans to wait for the outcome of this film, slated for release in March.

Game for any role

Being director Pandiarajan’s son, Prithvi is not one to hanker after lead roles. In director A. Senthil Kumar’s Vaimai , he agreed to do a supporting role alongside Shanthanu and Muktha Bhanu ( Thaamirabharani ). “Ever since my debut, Kaivandha Kalai, I have done three films playing the lead. But, to stay afloat, I have decided to do any role that comes my way so long as they have some substance. In Vaimai , I play a construction worker, with Poornima Bhagyaraj playing my mother. I am happy that my character has been well-woven into the script,” says Prithvi, who has already signed up for his father’s next directorial venture which will go on the floors shortly.

Ashna teams up with Santhanam

For the second time in her film career, Ashna Zaveri has comedian-hero Santhanam for company in directors Muruganand’s (Murugan and Premanand) yet-to-be-titled film. “In my first film with Santhanam, Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham , my role was that of a traditional Tamil girl. But in this, the character I play is quite like who I am in real life — bold, carefree and modern in outlook. I play a fashion designing student in the city. Santhanam tries every trick in the book to catch my eye, and this gives rise to many humorous situations,” says Ashna, who is at present shooting for the final portions of the film.
