Pahari-Punjabi film ‘Ziddi Maahi’ opens at Hari Talkies

JAMMU, Feb 20: Locally produced first ever Pahari-Punjabi feature film ‘Ziddi Maahi’ which opened at the Hari Talkies, here today, has earned the appreciation for its heart touching family oriented theme, simple yet gripping treatment and melodic music and songs.
Certified under ‘U’ category by Censor Board of India, the film’s another attraction is that its characters speak local languages like Mirpuri, Poonchi, Kashmiri Punjabi, Muzaffrabadi and Taksali Punjabi which not only reflects the composite culture of J&K but also caters to large segment of PoK refugees settled in Jammu and Kashmir provinces since 1947.
Ziddi Maahi has been produced by Bikram Singh, the writer and lead role actor of the film. Shamsher Singh Chohalvi is co-producer, while film’s director is Baljit Raina who is also the lyric writer.  The competent cinematography marked with artistic light effects, is by Sameer Pratap, editing by Kashmir Singh, make-up by Shammi Dhameer, music by Arvind and Lucky Sehgal, lilting songs by Depali Wattal, Arvind and Bhai Sarbajit Singh. Shiv Dutt, producer of Lakeer was also present on the occasion along with members of film cast.
The film which with its strong emotional appeal left many in the audience with moist eyes, revolves around a close nit Sikh transporter family; old parents, elder son, his wife and their son and younger son (hero) who is in love with a girl. When the younger son instigated by his would-be father-in-law, demands his share in the property, his family legally makes younger son as the sole owner of all family property but leave the house. When the shocked younger son comes to know the evil designs of his father in-law, he along with his fiancé locates his family at Harminder Sahib (Golden Temple) and asks for forgiveness and the family reunites.
Well known local actress Lakshami Tagotra plays the female lead against Bikram Singh Vicky. The other actors who have given good performances in the film include Mandan Rangeela, Santosh Sangra, Rajni Khullar, Dr. Satvir Raina, Sujan Singh Rally Shammi Dhamir, Hardeep Singh and Shamsher Singh Chohalvi.
Ziddi Maahi, with its socially relevant theme and well directed griping sequences full of emotional impact, provides a neat entertainment in local dialects and can be considered as another mile stone for Jolywood, the acronym for Jammu film industry, which has in recent years already given well liked films like Maa Ni Mildi, Lakeer, Kuggi Maar Duari, Reet and highly acclaimed Gitiyaan.
